| managed to skate thru with little need for explanation, confrontation, or prostelisation as to why i simply don't 'do' "christmas."
dorian is falling apart, physically. i know what the vet is going to say tomorrow, and i know that i'll just pay the bill and walk away, with dorian, ignoring her advice, as that advice is centric to the human, and not to the patient (dorian) or the pack (the collective us).
i'll request an extended antibiotic Rx, bring him back home, and he'll continue to _be_ with us, until such time as he is actually bothered by his deterioration. at that point, he'll leave at home, with me, as i promised 14+ years ago.

| i found out last night that the US version of Life on Mars, which I was actually enjoying, had been canceled by the network. and that in all the other excitement of the past four weeks, i missed the series finale.
easy enough to watch when one has a computer these days, or so i assumed.
two things: ABC's online interface for watching shows, especially when compared to Hulu, is terrible. It required that i install MoveNetwork's player, and it still wouldn't work with my firefox/noscript setup. i resorted to IE7, which worked, but then it still tried (and failed, thanks to successful blacklisting at the hosts-file level) to pop up an advert for a site known to distribute malware through "free" screensavers. (honestly, people, just turn on the energy saving features, you don't need "screensavers" anymore). beyond that, it had a horribly busy interface, and it made you interact with it after every advertisement, lest it not continue.
that's all the first thing.
second, yuck. what a lame-ass, 'happy,' and extremely weak way to wrap up the story. seriously, do americans really insist on being spoonfed happy endings, or do those in charge just think that we do? the british original was so much better, especially at the end. | comments: You Talking to Me? |

| Suicide Aside
suicide aside
try watching birds
regard them as they fly like salt to bread
spice up this crusty world
a giant spider web
their lines of flight
tie up and bind the world
they fly
birds jump up in the air and stay
you try it
flap your arms for all you're worth
no way you're stuck
they’re free to leave the world
the colors
lemon zest and lime and berry
sugar coffee cream
and all the rest
sublime delicious flavors how
our eyes drink in the world
and listen to them sing
the wind becomes a thing alive
with music whistles squawks and chirps
a melody of world
so tell me why you thought you'd rather die
check out pluck all the feathers
close the lights
alright don't tell me
but please me
stick around a while
with me to watch the birds
see how they swirl and turn the world

| i started to watch an episode of "SAG" (Stargate:Atlantis), and realised it must be where SciFi stars go to die...Mitch Pillegi, Robert Picardo, and Jewel Staite all in the first five minutes. didn't bother finishing, instead watched a classic BSG, if for no other reason than to remind myself how hoaky it was.
which only led to more wonderment: Apollo from the new BSG (Jamie Bamber) is a star of the new L&O:UK version. and now that i've seen a bit more of it, Freema Agyeman (Dr. Jones) is also in it. WTF? i realise that every actor and actress in the USofA has to be in a L&O at some point, but now the virus has spread to England.
so weird to hear Apollo speak in a non-American voice, much more weird than Hugh Laurie. | comments: 2 wiseguys or You Talking to Me? |

| the other day, i ordered a new turntable. yes, i know i have two already. but neither do 78 (DJ turntables tend to just do 33 and 45), and my old non-DJ belt-drive Marantz that did 78 is long dead and recycled.
it obviously isn't the best of turntables. but is portable, can play records using batteries and a built-in speaker, and will let me digitise the stack of 78s that i have, as well as the ones that are piled up at the brother's farm (i sense a project in the future).
next week i can once again listen to such gems as:
"Hobo" Jack Turner:::The Big Rock Candy Mountains [Diva 2807-G (147414)] Georgia Yellow Hammers:::Pass Around the Bottle [Montgomery Ward M-8054-A] Bud Billings (Carson Robison):::The Wreck of Number Nine [Montgomery Ward M-8054-B]
Not only are there no more monkeywards, but there haven't been records from monkeywards in longer than that. i guess sears won? neither produces catalogs or adverts that are suitable for use as a substitute bog roll these days.

| i was working in the garage, come into the basement to find dorian spyder running around. all i say is "hey! you know you're not supposed to be down here," and he runs towards me, up the stairs, stops mid-flight, level with my head, and barks in my face. then runs upstairs and away.
i have no idea what that meant. now he's curled up in my lap as i type.

| if you lie to a police officer, that's obstruction, and a crime. if a police officer or detective lies to you (i.e. says "we have evidence" and they don't), that's called "good police work" and not a crime, especially if it gives them a confession (real or false) and/or plea bargain (under duress).
